Twitter header size

The X header size and the Twitter header size are the same: X recommends 1500 x 500. The crop box marks the band that stays in view.

X recommends 1500 x 500 pixels for a header photo, as a JPG, GIF or PNG. 60 pixels on the top and bottom could be cropped on some screens.

How to use the tool

  1. Add a photo: drop a JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC or JFIF, or choose one from your device.
  2. Pick a size. Drag and zoom the crop box until the part you want sits inside it.
  3. Download a JPG (the default) or a PNG, drawn at the exact width and height you picked. Nothing is uploaded.

What the size means

X's page "How to customize your profile", read 24 October 2026, gives recommended dimensions of 1500x500 pixels for the header photo, as a JPG, GIF or PNG, not animated. Twitter is the old name for X, so it is the same header at the same size.

A second X page, "Help with uploading a profile photo", says 60 pixels on the top and bottom could be cropped on different monitors and browsers. Take 60 off each edge of a 500 pixel tall header and 1500 x 380 is left. That band is drawn on the crop box. It is worked out, not a number X publishes. X publishes no file size limit for headers, so this page sets none.

Questions

Is it private?

Yes. The crop runs in your browser. No file is sent to creavio or anyone else, and nothing is stored after you close the tab. The HEIC decoder downloads once, the first time you add a HEIC photo.

What is the band on the crop box?

It marks 1500 x 380, the part of the header left after the 60 pixels at the top and bottom that X says could be cropped. Keep text and faces inside it.

Which browsers does it work in?

Current versions of Chrome and Safari. It uses only features built into the browser, so there is nothing to install.

HEIC decoding uses heic-to and libheif, free software licensed under the GNU LGPL 3.0. They are included unmodified as a separate file, loaded only when you add a HEIC photo. The source code is at the links above.
