AI Media Analysis Guide

AI Media Analysis Guide

Every image you upload to creavio is automatically analyzed by AI. This is not a gimmick. It is a productivity tool that saves you hours of manual tagging, searching, and organizing. Here is what it does and how to use it.

What Happens on Upload

When you upload an image to your media library or a collection, creavio's AI analyzes it and generates:

  • Quality score: A 1-100 score based on sharpness, exposure, composition, and subject focus
  • Keywords: Descriptive tags based on what the AI sees (e.g., "outdoor," "golden hour," "couple," "mountain," "laughing")
  • Scene description: A brief text description of the image content
  • Technical assessment: Notes on exposure, focus accuracy, and dynamic range
  • Color analysis: Dominant colors and mood classification
  • Subject detection: People count, faces detected, and approximate positions

Quality Scoring Breakdown

The quality score considers four factors:

  • Sharpness (25%): Is the subject in focus? Is there motion blur?
  • Exposure (25%): Is the image properly exposed? Clipped highlights or crushed shadows?
  • Composition (25%): Subject placement, leading lines, rule of thirds adherence
  • Subject quality (25%): Are eyes in focus? Is the expression natural? Body posture?

Scores above 80 are strong images. Scores between 50-80 are acceptable. Below 50 indicates technical issues.

Using AI Analysis for Culling

In collections with AI Auto-Cull enabled, the quality scores drive automated recommendations:

  • Keep: Highest-scoring images with no duplicates
  • Review: Mid-scoring images that might be worth keeping for variety
  • Remove: Low-scoring images and exact/near duplicates

You make the final decision. AI flags the obvious cuts so you spend your time on the images that actually matter.

Smart Search

AI-generated keywords make your media library searchable by content, not just filename. Search for "sunset" and find every sunset image you have ever uploaded. Search for "bride laughing" and get exactly that.

This is especially powerful when you have thousands of images across years of work. Finding the right portfolio image takes seconds, not minutes.

Duplicate Detection

The AI detects two types of duplicates:

  • Exact duplicates: Identical files uploaded multiple times
  • Near duplicates: Multiple shots from a burst sequence that are nearly identical. The AI groups them and recommends the sharpest one.

This is critical for wedding and event photographers who shoot thousands of images. Culling 2,000 wedding images down to 600 goes much faster when duplicates are pre-identified.

Privacy and AI

AI analysis runs on creavio's infrastructure. Your images are not sent to third-party services or used to train external models. Analysis data is stored in your account and is not accessible to other users.

Disabling AI Analysis

If you prefer to skip AI analysis on specific uploads, you can disable it per-upload in the upload dialog. You can also disable it account-wide under Settings > Media > AI Analysis. Images uploaded with AI disabled can be analyzed later manually by selecting them and clicking Analyze.

Accuracy and Limitations

AI analysis is a tool, not a replacement for your creative judgment. Limitations:

  • Quality scores favor technically sharp images. An intentionally soft or motion-blurred artistic shot may score lower.
  • Keyword generation is approximately 90% accurate. Unusual subjects or complex scenes may be mislabeled.
  • The AI cannot assess emotional significance. A technically average photo of a father seeing his daughter in her wedding dress is priceless. The score does not capture that.

Use AI analysis as a starting point. Your eye makes the final call.
