Collection Cover Photos
The cover photo is the first thing clients see when they open a collection. A strong cover creates anticipation and sets the tone for the entire gallery experience.
Setting a Cover Photo
- Open the collection you want to update
- Hover over the image you want as the cover
- Click the three-dot menu on the image
- Select Set as Cover
- The cover updates immediately
Alternatively, go to Collection Settings > Cover Photo and browse your uploaded images to select one.
Default Behavior
If you don't set a cover photo manually, creavio uses the first image in the collection. This is fine for quick shares but choosing an intentional cover photo makes a noticeably better impression.
What Makes a Good Cover Photo
Your cover photo appears in several places: the client's gallery link preview, your portfolio grid, social media share cards, and email notifications. Keep these tips in mind:
- Horizontal orientation works best. Cover photos are displayed in a wide format in most contexts. Vertical images get cropped.
- Simple compositions read well at small sizes. The cover appears as a thumbnail in some views. Busy images lose impact when small.
- Emotion over technique. Choose the image that captures the feeling of the session, not necessarily the most technically perfect shot.
- Avoid heavy text overlays. The collection title already appears over the cover in some views, so text on the image itself can create visual clutter.
Cover Photo Cropping
When setting a cover, you can adjust the focal point for cropping. Click Adjust Position after selecting the cover image, then drag to set where the crop should center. This ensures faces and key elements aren't cut off in thumbnail views.
Changing the Cover
You can change the cover photo at any time, even after the gallery has been shared with clients. The update is instant and doesn't trigger any notification to the client. If the gallery link has already been shared on social media, note that platforms cache preview images. The updated cover may take time to reflect on previously shared links.
