Large Gallery Management
Wedding galleries can reach 800 images. Event galleries can hit 1,000+. Large galleries need structure or they become overwhelming for you and your client. Here is how to manage them effectively.
Organizing Before Upload
Do your organization work before uploading to creavio, not after:
- Cull and edit your final selections in Lightroom or your editing tool
- Create a folder structure on your computer that matches how you want the gallery sections to appear
- Name files consistently (sequential or by section)
- Run your final export at the delivery resolution
Uploading organized files means less rearranging after the fact.
Using Sections Effectively
For any gallery over 100 images, use sections. They break the gallery into digestible chunks.
Wedding example (600 images):
- Getting Ready - Bride (40 images)
- Getting Ready - Groom (25 images)
- First Look (30 images)
- Ceremony (80 images)
- Family Formals (40 images)
- Wedding Party (35 images)
- Cocktail Hour & Details (50 images)
- Reception - Entrances & Toasts (40 images)
- Reception - Dancing (60 images)
- Couple Portraits (45 images)
- Exit & Send-off (15 images)
Clients can jump directly to the section they care about. Guests find their photos faster.
Gallery Loading Performance
creavio uses lazy loading and progressive image delivery for large galleries. Only the images currently visible on screen are loaded at full quality. Everything else loads as the client scrolls.
This means a 1,000-image gallery loads just as fast as a 50-image gallery for the initial view. The client does not wait for all images to download before they can start browsing.
Thumbnail Optimization
Gallery grid views use optimized thumbnails, not full-resolution images. When a client clicks an image, the full version loads in the lightbox. This two-tier approach keeps scrolling smooth even on slower connections.
Client Experience Tips
- Lead with your best work. Put 5-10 of your absolute best images at the top as a "Highlights" section. This sets the emotional tone before the client dives into the full gallery.
- Do not overdeliver. 800 images is not better than 500 curated images. Every mediocre image dilutes the impact of your best work. Cull harder.
- Include a guide. Add a description at the top of the gallery: "Your complete gallery is organized by section. Click any image to view it larger. Use the download button to save favorites."
Favoriting and Selections
For large galleries, enable the favorite feature. Clients click a heart icon on images they love. This creates a shortlist they can return to later for prints, albums, or social sharing.
Favorites are tracked per client login. If multiple family members view the gallery, each person's favorites are independent.
Bulk Operations
Managing large galleries requires bulk tools:
- Bulk select: Click and drag or Shift+click to select multiple images
- Bulk move: Move selected images between sections
- Bulk delete: Remove multiple images at once
- Bulk tag: Apply tags to selected images for organization
Use these tools to reorganize after AI analysis identifies low-quality images or duplicates.
Storage and Plan Limits
Large galleries consume storage. Monitor your usage under Settings > Storage. If you are approaching your plan limit, consider:
- Archiving older galleries that clients no longer need access to
- Upgrading your plan for additional storage
- Removing galleries past their expiration date
Archived galleries retain their data and can be restored. They just do not count against your active storage quota.
