Stripe Connect: The Complete Guide

Stripe Connect on creavio

creavio uses Stripe Connect to process all client payments. This means you own your Stripe account. Your payment history, customer data, and payout settings belong to you. If you ever leave creavio, your Stripe account goes with you.

Setting Up Stripe Connect

First-Time Setup

  1. Go to Settings > Payments
  2. Click Connect with Stripe
  3. You will be redirected to Stripe's onboarding flow
  4. Enter your business information: legal name, address, tax ID (SSN or EIN)
  5. Add your bank account for payouts
  6. Verify your identity (Stripe may ask for a photo ID)
  7. Return to creavio — your account is now connected

The whole process takes 5-10 minutes. Stripe verifies your information in the background. Most accounts are fully active within minutes.

If You Already Have a Stripe Account

If you have an existing Stripe account from another platform, you can connect it to creavio. During the Connect flow, sign in with your existing Stripe credentials instead of creating a new account. Your existing payment history stays intact.

How Payments Work

Client Payment Flow

  1. You send an invoice through creavio
  2. Client clicks "Pay Now" and enters their card or bank details
  3. Stripe processes the payment
  4. Funds (minus processing fees) are queued for payout to your bank
  5. creavio marks the invoice as paid automatically

Processing Fees

  • Credit/debit card: 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction
  • ACH bank transfer: 0.8%, capped at $5.00

These are Stripe's standard rates. creavio does not add any additional fees.

Payout Schedule

By default, Stripe sends payouts to your bank account on a rolling 2-business-day schedule. This means a payment received on Monday arrives in your bank by Wednesday.

You can customize your payout schedule in your Stripe dashboard:

  • Daily: Payouts every business day
  • Weekly: One payout per week on a day you choose
  • Monthly: One payout per month

New Stripe accounts may have a 7-14 day hold on initial payouts. This is standard Stripe policy for fraud prevention.

Managing Your Stripe Dashboard

Access your full Stripe dashboard at dashboard.stripe.com. Here you can:

  • View detailed transaction history
  • Change your payout bank account
  • Download tax documents (1099-K)
  • View and respond to disputes
  • Update your business information

Handling Disputes and Chargebacks

If a client disputes a charge, Stripe notifies you by email. You have 7-21 days to respond with evidence. Submit:

  • Signed contract showing agreed terms
  • Proof of service delivery (gallery link, delivery confirmation email)
  • Communication history showing the client received their images

creavio's records (signed contracts, invoice history, gallery delivery logs) serve as your evidence. Download them from the client record.

Tax Season

Stripe issues a 1099-K form if your annual volume meets the IRS threshold. Find it in your Stripe dashboard under Settings > Documents each January. Keep your own records too. creavio's revenue reports can be exported for your accountant.

Troubleshooting

Payments not going through: Check that your Stripe account is fully verified. Incomplete verification blocks payments.

Payouts delayed: Log into Stripe dashboard and check for any verification requests or holds.

Client cannot pay: Ensure the invoice amount is above Stripe's minimum ($0.50 USD). Check that the client's card or bank is supported.

Disconnected account: If your Stripe connection drops, go to Settings > Payments and click Reconnect. Your existing data is preserved.
