Unsubscribe Management
Email compliance is both a legal requirement and a trust issue. creavio handles unsubscribe management automatically so you stay compliant without losing important client communication.
How Unsubscribes Work
Marketing and promotional emails sent through creavio include an unsubscribe link in the footer. When a recipient clicks it, they're taken to a preference page where they can:
- Unsubscribe from marketing emails: No more newsletters, promotions, or announcements
- Unsubscribe from all emails: Stops everything except critical transactional messages
What Can't Be Unsubscribed
Certain emails are transactional and legally required. These are always sent regardless of unsubscribe status:
- Invoice and payment confirmations
- Contract signature requests
- Gallery delivery notifications (when directly requested by the client)
- Account security alerts
- Legal notices
This distinction is important. A client who unsubscribes from your newsletter should still receive their gallery link and invoice.
Viewing Unsubscribed Contacts
Go to Communication > Unsubscribes to see a list of all contacts who've opted out. Each entry shows:
- When they unsubscribed
- Which email triggered the unsubscribe
- What level of opt-out they selected
Re-subscribing
You cannot re-subscribe someone without their explicit consent. This is a legal requirement under CAN-SPAM and GDPR. If a client asks you to add them back:
- Go to their client record
- Under Communication Preferences, click Send Re-subscribe Request
- They'll receive an email with a confirmation link
- Once they click it, they're re-subscribed
Reducing Unsubscribes
A few best practices to keep unsubscribe rates low:
- Only send marketing emails to clients who expect them
- Keep frequency reasonable. Monthly is plenty for most photographers.
- Make every email valuable. Share useful content, not just promotions.
- Segment your list so clients only receive relevant messages
creavio's unsubscribe rate for photography businesses averages under 1%, well below the industry standard. Keep your content relevant and your list will stay healthy.
