Image Optimization
Fast-loading images are critical for your website. Visitors leave if a page takes more than three seconds to load, and Google penalizes slow sites in search rankings. creavio handles image optimization automatically so your photos look stunning without slowing anything down.
What creavio Does Automatically
When you upload an image to your website or portfolio, creavio processes it behind the scenes:
- Resizes — generates multiple sizes (thumbnail, medium, large, full) so the browser loads only what fits the screen
- Compresses — applies intelligent compression that reduces file size by 60-80% with no visible quality loss
- Converts to WebP — serves modern WebP format to browsers that support it, with JPEG fallback for older browsers
- Lazy loads — images below the fold don't load until the visitor scrolls to them
Responsive Images
creavio uses the HTML srcset attribute to serve different image sizes based on the device. A visitor on a phone receives a 750px-wide image while a visitor on a 4K monitor gets a 2400px version. This dramatically reduces data usage on mobile without compromising quality on desktop.
What You Should Do
While creavio handles the technical optimization, you can help by following these guidelines:
- Upload high-quality originals — creavio compresses from the original, so start with the best quality you have
- Use JPEG for photos — PNG files are much larger and should only be used for graphics with transparency
- Avoid uploading images larger than 6000px — anything beyond this is wasted data since no screen displays that resolution on the web
- Add alt text — describe each image for accessibility and SEO
Performance Score
Check your site's performance score under Website → Settings → Performance. creavio shows you a Google PageSpeed-style score and highlights any images that could be further optimized. Aim for a score above 90.
Image optimization runs automatically on all plans. No configuration needed.
