SEO Settings Guide
SEO is not magic. It is making sure Google understands what your pages are about so it can show them to the right people. creavio gives you the controls. This guide shows you what to set and why.
Page-Level SEO
Every page in the website builder has an SEO section. Click SEO in the page settings to configure:
Page Title (Title Tag)
This is what appears in browser tabs and Google search results. Under 60 characters. Include your primary keyword and location.
- Good: "Washington DC Wedding Photographer | Jane Doe Photo"
- Bad: "Home | Jane Doe" or "Welcome to My Website"
Meta Description
The snippet below your title in search results. Under 155 characters. Write it like ad copy — make people want to click.
- Good: "Documentary wedding photography in DC, Virginia, and Maryland. Candid moments, real emotions. See the portfolio and book your date."
- Bad: "Welcome to my photography website where I offer photography services."
URL Slug
Short, descriptive, lowercase, hyphens instead of spaces. Once set, avoid changing it — changing URLs breaks existing links and search rankings.
Open Graph Image
The image that appears when your page is shared on Facebook, LinkedIn, or iMessage. Upload a landscape image at least 1200x630px. If not set, social platforms pick a random image from your page.
Global SEO Settings
Go to Website > SEO for site-wide settings:
- Site title format — the suffix added to every page title (e.g., "| Jane Doe Photography"). Set this once.
- Default OG image — fallback Open Graph image for pages without one set
- Google verification — paste your Google Search Console verification code here to verify ownership
Sitemap
creavio automatically generates a sitemap.xml at yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml. It includes all published pages, blog posts, and portfolio projects. Submit this URL in Google Search Console so Google can discover all your content.
Robots.txt
A robots.txt file is automatically generated at yourdomain.com/robots.txt. It tells search engines which pages to crawl. The default settings work for most sites. Do not modify unless you know what you are doing.
Structured Data
creavio adds structured data (JSON-LD) to your pages automatically:
- LocalBusiness schema on your home page (helps Google show your business in local results)
- Article schema on blog posts (helps with rich snippets)
- ImageGallery schema on portfolio pages
This happens in the background. You do not need to configure it.
Image Alt Text
Every image on your website should have alt text. Set this in your media library — click any image and add a description. When you use that image on a page, the alt text carries over.
Alt text helps Google understand images and improves accessibility. Write it as if describing the image to someone who cannot see it.
