SEO Meta Tags
Search engines and social platforms read your meta tags to understand what each page is about. creavio gives you full control over title tags, meta descriptions, and Open Graph data so your pages look polished in Google results and social shares alike.
What Are Meta Tags
Meta tags are invisible snippets of text in your page's HTML that tell search engines and social platforms what the page contains. The three most important ones are:
- Title tag — appears as the clickable headline in Google search results
- Meta description — the two-line summary below the title in search results
- Open Graph image — the preview image shown when someone shares your link on Facebook, LinkedIn, or iMessage
Setting Meta Tags Per Page
Navigate to Website → Pages and click the gear icon on any page. You'll see fields for:
- SEO Title — keep it under 60 characters. Include your name and what you shoot. Example: "Sarah Chen Photography | Portland Wedding Photographer"
- SEO Description — keep it under 155 characters. Write a compelling sentence that makes someone want to click. Example: "Candid, emotional wedding photography in Portland and the Pacific Northwest. Now booking 2027."
- OG Image — upload a 1200×630px image. This is what appears when your link is shared on social media.
Global Defaults
Set default meta tags under Website → Settings → SEO. These apply to any page where you haven't set custom tags. Your homepage should always have custom tags — it's the most important page for search.
Common Mistakes
- Leaving the title as "Home" or "Untitled" — search engines need descriptive titles
- Stuffing keywords — write for humans first, search engines second
- Using the same description on every page — each page should have a unique description
- Forgetting the OG image — links shared without a preview image get far less engagement
creavio automatically generates meta tags from your page content if you leave the fields blank, but custom tags always perform better.
