Custom domain not connecting

What's happening

You've added a custom domain to your creavio website but it's not loading, showing an error, or still pointing to your old site. Your creavio portfolio works fine at your default creavio URL but not at your custom domain.

Common causes

  1. DNS records haven't been configured correctly at your domain registrar
  2. DNS changes haven't fully propagated yet (can take up to 48 hours)
  3. The CNAME record is pointing to the wrong destination
  4. SSL certificate hasn't been provisioned yet
  5. The domain is still connected to another hosting provider

How to fix it

1. Verify your DNS records

Log into your domain registrar (GoDaddy, Namecheap, Google Domains, Cloudflare, etc.) and check that you've added the correct CNAME record. The record should be:

  • Type: CNAME
  • Name/Host: www (or @ for root domain)
  • Value/Target: The value shown in your creavio domain settings

Make sure there are no conflicting A records or other CNAME records for the same hostname.

2. Wait for DNS propagation

DNS changes can take anywhere from 15 minutes to 48 hours to propagate globally. If you just made changes, give it time. You can use a tool like whatsmydns.net to check if your DNS records have propagated to different regions.

3. Remove conflicting records

If your domain was previously connected to another hosting provider, there may be old A records or CNAME records conflicting with your new creavio configuration. Delete any DNS records for the same hostname that aren't part of your creavio setup.

4. Check SSL status

After DNS is properly configured, SSL certificates are provisioned automatically. This can take up to 30 minutes after DNS propagation completes. If your site loads with a security warning, the SSL certificate is still being issued — wait a bit longer and try again.

5. Confirm domain settings in creavio

Go to Website & Portfolio > Domain Settings in your dashboard. Make sure your custom domain is entered correctly and saved. If the domain status shows an error, try removing it and re-adding it to trigger a fresh verification.

Still not working?

If your domain still isn't connecting after 48 hours, contact creavio support with your domain name and a screenshot of your DNS records. We'll help diagnose the issue.

Frequently Asked Questions

My domain isn't connecting — what do I check?

Verify your DNS records match exactly what creavio specifies. Ensure there are no conflicting records, and allow up to 48 hours for propagation.

How long should I wait for DNS to propagate?

Most domains propagate within a few hours, but it can take up to 48 hours. Check back periodically.

Do I need to remove my old DNS records?

Remove any conflicting A or CNAME records that point to other services. Keep only the records creavio requires.
