How to convert RAW to JPG

What is a RAW file?

A RAW file holds what the camera's sensor recorded, before it becomes a finished photo. Each maker has its own format: CR2 and CR3 from Canon, NEF from Nikon and ARW from Sony. DNG follows the DNG specification, and some cameras and phones use it.

Each format can also hold a JPG the camera made when you took the picture. The tool reads all five and tells them apart by their contents, not their names.

What is a JPG?

JPG (also written JPEG) is the format for sharing photographs. It is lossy, which keeps files small, and every browser, phone, editing app, print lab and email client opens it. It has no transparency.

Is it private?

Yes. The converter is a page, not an upload: your browser opens each file, converts it and saves the result to your device. No file is sent to creavio or to anyone else, and nothing is stored after you close the tab.

Is the quality kept?

This tool saves the JPG your camera stored inside the RAW file. Your edits and white balance changes are not applied. Some cameras (older Canon and Sony models) and many phone DNGs store only a small preview. The tool shows the output size before you download. The JPG is saved again at quality 92 out of 100, and location, camera settings and other details in the RAW are not copied to it.

How many files can I convert at once?

Up to 20 at a time. Download them one by one, or all together as a single zip.

Is there a file size limit?

Each file can be up to 200 MB, and its JPG must fit this browser's pixel limit, 100 megapixels on a desktop computer. A larger file shows a message.

Which browsers does it work in?

Current versions of Chrome and Safari. The tool reads the file itself and uses the browser's own JPG decoder, so there is nothing to install.
