creavio's API
creavio provides a REST API for building custom integrations. If you need to connect creavio to a tool that does not have a native integration or Zapier recipe, the API gives you direct access.
This guide is for photographers with technical skills or who work with a developer.
Generating an API Key
- Go to Settings > API Keys
- Click Generate New Key
- Enter a descriptive name: "Custom Website," "Zapier," "Internal Dashboard"
- Copy the key immediately. It will not be shown again.
- Store the key securely. Do not share it in plain text, commit it to code repositories, or expose it in client-side code.
Authentication
All API requests require your API key in the Authorization header:
Authorization: Bearer your-api-key-here
Requests without a valid key receive a 401 Unauthorized response.
Rate Limits
The API allows 100 requests per minute per API key. If you exceed this limit, you will receive a 429 Too Many Requests response. Wait 60 seconds and retry.
For bulk operations, batch your requests and add a small delay between calls. Most integrations never approach the rate limit.
What You Can Access
The API provides read and write access to core creavio data:
Clients
- List all clients (paginated)
- Get a single client by ID
- Create a new client
- Update client information
- Search clients by name or email
Bookings
- List upcoming and past bookings
- Get booking details
- Create a new booking
- Update booking status
Invoices
- List all invoices
- Get invoice details including line items
- Create a new invoice
- Mark invoice as sent
Collections (Galleries)
- List collections
- Get collection details and image URLs
- Create a new collection
Webhooks
Subscribe to events and receive real-time notifications when things happen in creavio:
- client.created
- booking.created
- invoice.paid
- contract.signed
- collection.published
Register webhook URLs under Settings > API Keys > Webhooks. creavio sends a POST request with event data to your URL whenever the event occurs.
Common Custom Integrations
Custom Website Gallery
If you use a custom-built website (not creavio's website builder), pull gallery data through the API to display Collections on your site.
Internal Dashboard
Build a custom reporting dashboard that pulls revenue, booking counts, and client metrics from creavio's API.
CRM Sync
Sync client data between creavio and another CRM (Salesforce, HubSpot) for businesses that use multiple systems.
Security Best Practices
- Never expose API keys in client-side code (JavaScript that runs in the browser)
- Rotate keys periodically. Delete old keys and generate new ones quarterly.
- Use separate keys for different integrations. If one is compromised, revoke it without breaking everything else.
- Monitor key usage under Settings > API Keys > Usage Logs.
The API is for advanced users and developers. If you are not technical, use Zapier for no-code integrations instead.
