Creating Session Types

Creating Session Types

Every photographer offers different kinds of sessions. A 30-minute headshot is not a 10-hour wedding. Session types let you define what you offer so clients can book the right thing at the right price.

What Is a Session Type?

A session type is a bookable service with its own name, duration, price, and settings. When a client visits your booking page, they see a list of your session types and pick the one that fits.

Creating Your First Session Type

  1. Go to Bookings > Session Types
  2. Click + New Session Type
  3. Fill in the details:
    • Name — what the client sees (e.g., "Mini Session", "Full Wedding Day")
    • Duration — how long the session lasts (30 min, 1 hour, 8 hours, etc.)
    • Price — the session fee. Leave blank if you quote custom pricing.
    • Description — what is included. Be specific. Clients decide based on this.
    • Buffer time — minutes before and after the session that stay blocked on your calendar. Set 30 minutes if you need travel or setup time.
  4. Click Save

Session Type Settings

Each session type has additional configuration:

Deposit requirement

Require a deposit at booking time. Set a flat amount ($200) or a percentage (50%). The deposit is collected through Stripe when the client confirms. See payment plans and deposits for details.

Intake form

Attach a questionnaire that clients fill out when booking. Ask about the location, number of people, wardrobe preferences, or anything you need to prepare. Build intake forms in Forms.

Location

Set a default location (your studio address) or let the client specify. Options: fixed location, client-specified, or virtual (with a video call link).

Booking window

Control how far in advance and how last-minute clients can book. Example: allow bookings from 2 days out to 3 months ahead. This prevents surprise same-day bookings and keeps your calendar manageable.

Max bookings per day

Limit how many of this session type can be booked on any given day. Set to 1 for weddings, 4 for minis.

Visibility

Set to Public to show on your booking page or Private to hide it. Private session types are only bookable via a direct link you share. Useful for exclusive or seasonal offerings.

Common Session Type Examples

  • Mini Session — 20 min, $150, 10 edited images, no deposit
  • Standard Portrait — 1 hour, $350, 30 edited images, $100 deposit
  • Engagement Session — 1.5 hours, $500, 50 edited images, 50% deposit
  • Full Wedding Day — 10 hours, $3,500, gallery of 500+, $1,000 deposit, intake form attached
  • Corporate Headshot — 15 min per person, $200, 3 retouched images

Editing and Duplicating

Click any session type to edit it. Changes do not affect existing bookings — only future ones.

Use Duplicate to create variations quickly. Duplicate your "Standard Portrait" and tweak it into an "Extended Portrait" by changing the duration and price.

Sharing Your Booking Page

Your booking page is live at yourdomain.com/book (or creav.io/yourname/book if you have not connected a custom domain). Share this link on your website, Instagram bio, or email signature.

Each session type also has its own direct link if you want to send clients straight to a specific offering.
