Blogging for Photographers

Blogging for Photographers

Blogging is the single most effective long-term marketing strategy for photographers. Unlike social media posts that disappear in hours, blog posts drive traffic for years. Here's how to build a blog that actually generates bookings.

Why Blog?

When someone searches "engagement photographer in [your city]," Google needs content to rank. Your Instagram profile won't appear in that search. A blog post about a real engagement session at a local venue will. Every blog post is a new opportunity to appear in Google search results.

Blog Topics That Work

Not all blog posts are created equal. Focus on these categories:

  • Session features: "Sarah & James | Sunset Engagement at Meridian Park." Include the couple's names, location, and your city for local SEO.
  • Venue guides: "Best Wedding Venues in [City]: A Photographer's Guide." These rank exceptionally well and attract couples in your area.
  • What to wear guides: "What to Wear for Your Fall Family Session." These attract clients who've already decided to book and are preparing.
  • Behind the scenes: "A Day in the Life of a Wedding Photographer." Builds connection and trust.
  • Tips and advice: "How to Choose Your Wedding Photographer." Positions you as an authority.

SEO Basics for Photographers

  1. Use your city name in the blog title and throughout the post
  2. Name the venue or location specifically. "Meridian Park" is searchable. "A beautiful park" is not.
  3. Write at least 300 words. Google prefers substantive content. Aim for 500-800 words per session feature.
  4. Alt text on every image. Describe the photo: "Bride and groom first dance at Meridian Park wedding."
  5. Use headings (H2, H3) to structure your content for both readers and search engines.

Posting Frequency

Consistency matters more than volume. One blog post per week is ideal. One per month is the minimum for SEO benefit. creavio's blog tool makes it easy to create posts from your session galleries with just a few clicks.
