How to use the tool
- Add a photo: drop a JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC or JFIF, or choose one from your device.
- Pick a size. Drag and zoom the crop box until the part you want sits inside it.
- Download a JPG (the default) or a PNG. A numbered size is exact; the square keeps your photo's own pixels. Nothing is uploaded.
What the size means
Instagram's article "Add a profile picture or change your current picture on Instagram", read 26 October 2026, gives the steps but no pixel size, shape or file limit. A search of its Help Center shows an answer from Meta AI, not a help article, saying the articles do not specify the recommended size for profile pictures. This page says so rather than inventing a number.
Instagram can use the picture you already have on Facebook. Facebook's article "Facebook Page profile picture and cover photo dimensions" says a Page profile picture should be 320 pixels wide and 320 pixels tall for best quality, and is cropped to a circle. The preset uses that size, labelled as Facebook's. For a logo or text, Facebook says a PNG may give a better result.
The Square option saves the largest centered square at your photo's own pixels, never enlarged.
Questions
Is it private?
Yes. The crop runs in your browser. No file is sent to creavio or anyone else, and nothing is stored after you close the tab. The HEIC decoder downloads once, the first time you add a HEIC photo.
Is 320 x 320 an Instagram size?
No. It is the size Facebook gives for a Page profile picture. Instagram publishes no size of its own, so the preset is labelled as Facebook's.
Which browsers does it work in?
Current versions of Chrome and Safari. It uses only features built into the browser, so there is nothing to install.
HEIC decoding uses heic-to and libheif, free software licensed under the GNU LGPL 3.0. They are included unmodified as a separate file, loaded only when you add a HEIC photo. The source code is at the links above.
