How to convert JFIF to JPG

  1. Add your JFIF files: drop them on the box above, or choose them from your device. You can add up to 20 at once.
  2. Your browser converts each one to JPG right away. Nothing is uploaded.
  3. Download each JPG, or download them all together as a single zip.

What is a JFIF file?

JFIF stands for JPEG File Interchange Format, the standard layout most JPEG images have used since the early 1990s. A .jfif file is almost always an ordinary JPEG with an unusual extension. Windows is the usual source: depending on a registry setting, images saved from a browser can come out as .jfif. Some upload forms, phones and apps see the name and refuse the file.

What is a JPG?

JPG (also written JPEG) is the format for sharing photographs. It is lossy, which keeps files small, and every browser, phone, editing app, print lab and email client opens it. It has no transparency.

Questions

Is it private?

Yes. The converter is a page, not an upload: your browser opens each file, converts it and saves the result to your device. No file is sent to creavio or to anyone else, and nothing is stored after you close the tab.

Is the quality kept?

Yes, exactly. A JFIF is already a JPEG, so the converter checks that the file starts with JPEG data and gives you the same bytes under a .jpg name: identical pixels, same size. A file named .jfif that is really a PNG or WebP is converted to a real JPG at quality 92 out of 100 instead, with transparent areas filled with white.

How many files can I convert at once?

Up to 20 at a time. Download them one by one, or all together as a single zip.

Is there a file size limit?

Each image can be up to 50 MB. A larger file shows a message and is not added.

Which browsers does it work in?

Current versions of Chrome and Safari. It uses only features built into the browser, so there is nothing to install.

Zip files are built with fflate (MIT license).
