How to convert MOV to MP4

  1. Add your MOV videos: drop them on the box above, or choose them from your device.
  2. Your browser converts each one to MP4, usually in seconds. Nothing is uploaded.
  3. Download each MP4 when it is ready.

What is a MOV file?

MOV is Apple's QuickTime movie format. iPhones record MOV files, and so do screen recordings on a Mac. An iPhone set to High Efficiency records HEVC (H.265) video inside the MOV; Settings, Camera, Formats, Most Compatible records H.264.

What is an MP4?

MP4 is the format almost everything else expects: Windows and Android players, video editors, social platforms and website uploaders. It was built on the QuickTime file format, and both can hold the same H.264, HEVC and AAC streams. HEVC plays on recent Apple devices and most current computers and phones, but some older devices only play H.264.

Questions

Is it private?

Yes. Your browser reads the MOV and writes the MP4 on your device; the video is never uploaded to creavio or anyone else.

Is the quality kept?

When the video is H.264 or HEVC and the audio is AAC, which is what an iPhone records, the streams are copied into the MP4 without re-encoding: same resolution, frame rate and quality. Otherwise your browser's video encoder re-encodes them, and the file list shows which happened. Extra timecode or timed metadata tracks are left out.

How many files can I convert at once?

Up to 20, converted one after another. Each MP4 downloads on its own.

Is there a file size limit?

Each video can be up to 500 MB. Because nothing is uploaded, the whole file has to fit in your device's memory.

Which browsers does it work in?

Current versions of Chrome, Edge and Safari. If your browser cannot handle a video, you will see a message saying so rather than a broken file.
